In 1924, a Japanese professor named Hidesaburō Ueno adopted an Akita dog and named him Hachikō.
Every morning, Hachikō walked with his owner to Shibuya Station in Tokyo. Every afternoon, he returned to the station at the exact same time to greet him after work.
One day in 1925, Professor Ueno suddenly suffered a fatal stroke while at work. He never returned to the station.
But Hachikō didn’t know.
The next day, he came back to the station and waited.
Then the next day…
And the day after that.
For nearly nine years, Hachikō returned to the same spot every single day, faithfully waiting for the owner who would never come home.
